Antique Edicts

Seljuk and Mamluk states “Menşur”, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu, Timurlu and İlhanlı states, “Yarlık” has taken the name. In Ottoman Empire, the sultan’s orders were written these documents and it is known as “Edict” (Ferman). These documents, written in Divani calligraphy, have the monogram on them which is accepted as the signature of the sultan. Although there are examples written with colored inks on gold illumination and decorated with floral motifs on the edges, they are mostly unglamorous documents written in black ink.
